Why are the charges for VIP security not being paid?
23 Feb, 2013Reply to an application filed by Chetan Kothari under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, has revealed that 28 persons have yet to pay for the charges to the Mumbai police for the security till January 2013.
The Wadhawan developers belonging to the HDIL group collectively owe Rs. 3,85,888/- for December 2012 and Rs. 3,17,845/- for January 2013. The spokesperson for the Wadhawans has said no dues were outstanding. The builders Abhishek and Abhinandan Lodha together owe Rs. 65,875/- for January 2013. In all, the total outstanding amount for January 2013 is Rs. 25,54,207/-.
Advocate Majid Memon owed Rs.1,27,500/- in November 2012. The advocate reportedly said that he did not seek security and it was the police commissioner who felt that he should be provided security. The bill was wrongly sent to him.
Former MP from Shiv Sena, Mohan Rawale, has yet to pay his dues since 2010. As of now, he has not been provided with security cover. Similar is the case of an activist Viren Shah, who owes Rs. 88,552/- to the police. His security cover was removed in 2010. Viren Shah reportedly said that the court had provided him security and he didn’t want it.
