Services of all OSDs / Consultants terminated by Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai
3 Jun, 2015Reply to a query under the Right to Information (RTI) Act had revealed that the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) had appointed as many as 40 retired employees as Officers on special duty (OSD)/consultants on contractual basis between January 1, 2010 to February 28, 2015 and has spent an amount of Rs 1.7 crore as fees for their services. After the hue and cry raised following the disclosure, now the civic body has decided to end the services of officer on special duty (OSD)/ consultants with effect from June 1, 2015. As per a circular issued on May 27, the Municipal Commissioner has ordered for the termination of the services of all such officers from June 1, 2015. The circular reads “It would be the responsibility of the concerned department heads to ensure that no further appointments are made on such basis and if such appointments are not cancelled by June 1, the head of the departments/assistant commissioner would be held responsible.”
The RTI applicant Anil Galgali was welcomed the move saying that it would help to boost morale of MCGM staff whose promotions were delayed due to re-deployment of the retired staff.
