Tax relief granted to the film on RTI by Tamilnadu government
24 Oct, 2013
Order issued after complain of delay was lodged with CM’s office
A film on RTI Act 2005, named ‘Angusam’ (meaning ‘the stick to control the elephant’ in Tamil), directed by
Mhanukannan
, on the ordeal of a youth’s struggle against the local MLA with the help of the District Collector using the RTI Act, has been granted tax relief by Commercial Tax Dept. of Tamil Nadu Govt.
Earlier the director had cried foul over the issue of the personal secretary of the minister of commercial tax department, Sarath Babu, allegedly calling him and asking him for a bribe of Rs 5,00,000/- for passing the order. The director had filed a complaint with the office of the Chief Minister over the issue of delay in passing the order of tax relief. In Tamil Nadu, films with Tamil title and contributing to the Tamil language, culture and heritage with an additional condition of ‘U’ certificate from the censor board is eligible for tax relief of 15%. The film was slated be released on October 25 to mark the RTI day, but due to the delay in granting the tax relief it has now been rescheduled for release on November 15, 2013.
