Dear Sir,
Sub: Submission regarding the Right to Information (Amendment) Bill, 2013
CHRI would like to make the following submission regarding the Right to Information (Amendment) Bill, 2013 currently under the consideration of your Committee:
1) Political parties must be required by law to be transparent about their activities including financial transactions as they are working to promote the public interest;
2) There is no justifiable ground to amend the RTI Act at this stage as the regime of transparency established by this law is still taking roots; and
3) All efforts must be made to protect and expand the regime of transparency established by the RTI Act instead of curtailing it.
I apologise for the delay in sending our submission. I request you to take into consideration our submission while preparing your report to Parliament.
Thanking you,
Yours sincerely,
Maja Daruwala
Director, CHRI
