Standing committee chairman seeks inquiry into Ganga Kalyan scheme
An application was filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to get the list of beneficiaries of Bellary district under the Ganga Kalyan scheme which provides for tube-well irrigation facilities to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
The list of beneficiaries provided in the reply to the application has revealed gross irregularities. There are cases where names of the beneficiaries are wrongly listed and in some cases the records of rights of other persons have been attached.
It was also revealed that though it has been claimed that the scheme was being implemented in land belonging to the beneficiaries, the survey numbers indicated that the mentioned land belonged to the government (forest areas).
After examining the RTI reply, the chairman of the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Industries has demanded that a thorough inquiry be conducted into the matter and strict action be taken against all those involved.
