Sessions Court updates website to comply with the RTI Act
9 Mar, 2013An application was filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to know if the Mumbai session court website had uploaded the names, designations and salary details of staffers of every department which is mandated under section 4 of the transparency act.
The applicant had demanded the particular details, among other queries, to be furnished to him in a CD or DVD. But as he didn’t receive any reply, he filed an appeal with the First Appellate Authority. The session court registrar said in the hearing that the information could not be provided free of cost and that the court didn’t have the required software with it for website updation. The appellant authority directed the registrar and the PIO to provide the information on receiving the fee amounting to Rs. 17,270. A request was also made to the principal judge to deploy adequate staff to catalogue and update the site.
The appellant then filed second appeal with the State Information Commission of Maharashtra. The PIO and registrar of the civil and session court has now submitted to the state chief information commissioner that the website had been updated according to the provisions of RTI Act and that the demanded information will be provided to the appellant free of cost within two days.
