On schedule trains: Amravati-Nagpur passenger never on time in past 108 days
4 Aug, 2013An application was filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to know the status of trains being run in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, the need of new trains for the region and the division's efforts to meet it.
The reply to the application shows that in the last 108 days, the Amravati-Nagpur passenger train has not arrived at Nagpur on time even for a single day. The reply shows that the train has been continuously late by an average one and a half hours.
Regarding the need for new trains and the efforts therefor, the reply says that no steps have been taken to specifically cater to the needs of the region. Answering to the question whether why no local trains are being run within Vidarbha region, the reply says that excessive congestion between Nagpur and Wardha doesn’t make introduction of new trains feasible.
Though some officials said that the problem with the region was the absence of computerized signalling system, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) refuted it saying that the signaling system in the region was electronic with no problem whatsoever.
