An application was filed with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to get the details about the funds spent on the renovation of the bungalows of its officials and to know whether they were spent according to the rules.
The reply from the AIIMS states that Rs. 73.6 lakh was spent on major renovation works, undertaken in bungalows of the director, deputy director, dean, medical superintendent and senior financial adviser. Out of the total expenditure, Rs. 42.13 lakhs was spent on the renovation of the director's bungalow.
Regarding the question whether the funds were spent as per the rules, the reply to the application states that the government hadn't issued any guidelines regarding the renovation of the bungalows. Allegations have been leveled against the present director of AIIMS regarding misuse of his powers to allot quarters on the campus under discretionary quota.
