Rental charges of over Rs 7 crore unrecovered in Pimpri Chinchwad
1 Mar, 2013Reply provide by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that there are 1,555 shops of the civic body that have been given on rent or lease to various organizations or individuals. The land records department was expected to get Rs 8.96 crore as rental as per its records between January and December 2012. But it has collected only Rs 1.76 crore of these charges. The civic body has failed to recover rental charges of Rs 7.25 crore.
The RTI applicant Raju Savale has demanded that instead of hiking the property tax for 2013-14, the civic body should concentrate on recovering the arrears of rental and other charges from its own properties. It has been demanded that legal action should be taken against the tenants for violating the terms and conditions of the rental or lease agreements and for failing to pay charges on time. He has also demanded action against the civic officials for not recovering the arrears.
The situation in most of the corporations remains more or less on a similar level all over the country. Is there any solution?
