Railway employee approaches CAT alleging transfer for exercising RTI
16 Apr, 2013An application was filed with the East Coast Railways (ECoR), Bhubaneswar under the Right to information (RTI) Act seeking to get information on sanction and expenditure of funds towards different heads in the All India Railway Athletic Championship in 2005, 2008 and 2012 and All India Railway Volleyball Championship in 2006, 2010, 2011 and 2012 organised by ECoR.
The applicant stated that he received a letter saying that no information would be provided to him. He alleged that the first appellate authority, instead of providing him information, asked him to stay away from RTI activities. The applicant then filed a petition in the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), Cuttack alleging that he was transferred after he sought to exercise his right to information.
The central administrative tribunal (CAT) has stayed his transfer and has directed him to make a suitable representation by placing all the facts before the General Manager, ECoR seeking appropriate relief within a period of 10 days.
