PMPML paid over Rs. 9 crore to accident victims in 5 years
6 May, 2013An application was filed with the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to get the details about the number of accidents and the compensation paid to the victims by PMPML.
The reply, from the transport corporation, states that since October, 2007, the year of formation of the Mahamandal, a total of over 1200 accidents have occurred. Out of these, half of the cases were fatal to the accident victims and the others led to severe injuries. PMPML also said in the reply that more than Rs. 9 crore have already been paid as compensation to the victims of the accidents.
It is perceived that the large number of accidents reflects poor drivers’ training programme, inaction against the guilty and poor maintenance of the buses. The PMPML managing director, however, has said that training programmes and meditation workshops are being held and the benefits will be soon manifested in the lower number of accidents.
