Only 2.2 lakh houses for BPL - RTI reply
14 Sep, 2012In an advertisement published on the eve of Republic Day, the Gujarat government had claimed to become the first state to achieve 100% success rate in providing residential assistance to more than 9 lakh BPL families in rural areas.
However, on the basis of a reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, Kutch Ladayak Manch (KLM), a NGO, has claimed that only 2,20,316 houses for families below poverty line (BPL) have been built. Apart from this on the basis of information furnished by district rural development agency (DRDA) of all the districts, it has been claimed that around 67% of the total fund meant for the housing of BPL was provided by the central government as the scheme fell under the Indira Awas Yojana (IAY).
