More than 300 cases of crime against women pending before SC

An application was filed with the Supreme Court (SC) of India under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to get the details about those cases which have been lying pending with the court and have been assigned to fast track courts.
The reply to the application states that there is no fast track court defined and that the requested data about the pending cases is not maintained by the court in year wise fashion with respect to subject category. However, the court provided in its reply, the overall data under different category which shows that 325 cases relating to sexual harassment and crime against women are pending with the court.
The reply also showed that nearly 8,500 cases related to land acquisition in different parts of the nation are also pending with the apex court. Similarly, 472 cases related to corruption and 588 road accident cases related to permanent disability have also been lying pending before the court. Other cases pending with the court include 403 matters relating to harassment, kidnapping and abduction, 418 divorce cases and 39 cases of atrocities on Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
