Many fresh graduates among the list of applicants for the post of Information Commissioner

In June, 2013 the state government of Madhya Pradesh had sought applications for the post of chief information commissioner as well as information commissioners. Later, an application was filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to get the list of the candidates who have applied for the job.
The list of applicants, received in the reply to the application, shows that along with current and retired bureaucrats, police officials, members of judiciary and other prominent persons, many fresh graduates and post graduates have also applied for the post. The list obtained in the reply shows that the freshers from different streams like MBA and Engineering, post graduates in arts and post graduate diploma holders in computer applications have applied for the coveted post.
However, when contacted it was found that most of such fresh graduates and post graduates don’t have even the slightest idea about the nature of the job assigned to information commissioners. Many had applied because of security of job, the perks therein and some were advised to do so by their parents. The RTI applicant has claimed that the incidence shows that the advertisement inviting applications was not designed meticulously as no criteria regarding age and experience were specified thus making the selection procedure quite cumbersome.
