What should be the fee for a priced report?
A resident of Thane requested for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for copies of a study report on transportation strategies in Thane and Raigad districts. He was told to pay Rs. 50,000/- for the copy of the comprehensive transportation study for the region carried out by the agency as they were "priced reports". It raises a question – for such priced documents, can a citizen seek copies of the documents at the rate of Rs. 2/- per page under the RTI Act? Can a citizen seek inspection of such documents at the rate prescribed under the RTI Act? The view of CIC seems to be divided.
