Increase in number of dog bites in Mumbai
3 Jan, 2012An RTI query has revealed that the dog bite cases have mounted from 53,051 to 77,484 in 2010 in a decade's time. It is not established whether it indicates an increase in the number of dog-bites or is due to better reporting of bite cases. Till October this year, 67,463 cases of dog bites have already been registered. Mumbai reportedly has a population of over 27,147 pet dogs out of which only 7,007 dogs are licensed as per BMC's records. Rabies, which is caused by dog-bites, remains a cause of concern for the people at large.
