Karnataka takes steps for strengthening RTI
In a bid to strengthen and streamline the Right to Information (RTI) regime, the state government of Karnataka has constituted a state level committee (SLC) to review the implementation of the transparency act in the state. The convener of the committee will be the Principal Secretary, Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms and the members will include secretaries of concerned departments, heads of departments, boards, corporations, authorities, etc.
The committee will review the disposal, pendency and reasons thereof, functions and responsibilities of the appellate authorities, computerization of information, website upgradation of public authorities and proper hearing and disposal of cases before the first appellate authorities. It will also ensure the suo-motu disclosure of basic information under the Section 4(1) (a) and 4(1) (b) of the RTI Act.
The SLC will place the issues, problems and proposals before the high-level committee under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary to the state government.
