15 Jan, 2014On December 27, 2013 the Maharashtra state information commissioner (SIC) had directed the University of Pune (UoP) to modify its circular regarding photocopies of evaluated or re-evaluated answer books and report compliance by January 15. On January 10, the university filed a writ petition in the Bombay High Court challenging the order of the SIC which was mentioned before the single judge bench of Justice R M Savant. The HC allowed the university to file the compliance report by February 4 and has fixed the next hearing on January 27.
The Pune University circular dated November 1, 2013, prescribed that those who desire to apply for photocopies of evaluated or re-evaluated answer books shall have to apply for it within 10 days from the date of declaration of result. Further provisions provided that the students holding such photocopies cannot transfer them to any other person and the university shall be free from any liability in case of failure or delay in supply of photocopies due to reasons beyond its control. Under section 19(8)(a), the SIC had directed the Pune university to extend the period to 90 days and had struck down the other two provisions.
