Governor's meetings with people not guided by any rules – RTI reply
13 Jul, 2013
An application was filed with the Jammu & Kashmir Raj Bhavan under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to know about the details of the procedure to seek an appointment with the Governor and the rules by which the Raj Bhavan accepts or declines such appointments. The query also sought to know the total number of individual and delegations who met the Governor since January 1, 2010 and the total number of memorandum and representations received by the Raj Bhavan during the same period.
Initially, the deputy secretary and public information officer (PIO) of the Raj Bhavan declined to provide the information stating that the Governor's office was privileged one whose information cannot be shared. However, after written protests and after five months of filing the RTI query, the PIO furnished the information.
The reply said that there are no rules and regulations regarding the meeting of Governor with the people of the state. He meets people at the Raj Bhawan, at public functions and also during tour within and outside the state.
