Goa to fill the vacant posts of information commissioners within a month
Responding to a zero hour mention by Curchorem BJP MLA Nilesh Cabral, chief minister Manohar Parrikar of Goa informed that the government intends to fill the vacant posts of chief information commissioner and information commissioner at the State Information Commissioner (SIC) within one month. He told the assembly that to get a better choice of candidates; the government shall advertise the posts within eight days and fill the vacancies within a month.
The Supreme Court judgment in Namit Sharma had held that information commissions should work in benches of two members with one of the members having a judicial background. On a review petition, the Supreme Court has now granted a stay on its own order and has directed all vacancies to be immediately filled in.
The Supreme Court is likely to hold final hearings from April 25 and then issue the final order. Pendency of cases has been piling in the information commission all over the country.
