City Municipal Corporation claims to have no information about the population
In reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, the City Municipal Council of Madikeri city has claimed that it lacks information about the number of roads / streets and the population in particular road /street.
Replying to an application filed by T C Thimmaiah under the RTI Act, the public relation officer of the Madikeri CMC provided the aforesaid information.
The applicant had pointed out that people residing in his ward were included in the voters list of another ward and had pointed out that the creation of wards in the recent poll for Madikeri CMC was not as per the guidelines. Giving statistics, the applicant claimed that the population in Ward No 17 is 465, while the population in Ward No 1 is 1,916 which is nearly four times that of in Ward No 1. He desired to know the basis on which the wards were divided. The applicant specifically requested to provide information about the roads, streets, number of houses and population in particular area in relation to the 25 blocks of CMC which have been divided into 23 wards.
The applicant has found the reply to be totally out of sync with the facts as a local authority is claiming to posses no information about the population based on which the election for it is held.
