10 Apr, 2013An application was filed with the Prime Minister’s office (PMO) under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to know the number of Manipuris employed since May 2012 under the Merger Agreement Article VIII (3) dated 21/9/1949.
The PMO referred the application to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the nodal agency for the matter. But as the ministry didn’t provide a reply, the first appeal was made with the first appellate authority, the Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs.
When the first appellate authority also failed provide the required information, the appellant filed second appeal with the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) seeking the information as well as punishment for the concerned authorities. The CIC has fixed the date of hearing on 15th of April and asked the appellant to attend the hearing through video conferencing. However, the appellant, Dr Suresh Singh, is reportedly planning to attend the hearing in person as he has to attend a Supreme Court hearing also.
