Are the Mayor & Deputy Mayor of Bangalore violating the Supreme court Order?
28 Oct, 2013Active Citizens Network, an NGO working in the field of RTI, has filed a complaint with the Transport Commissioner against the use of beacons by the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) B. S. Sathyanarayana and Indira respectively, this has been done along with a copy of the complaint being submitted with the Commissioner of BBMP as-well.
With the Supreme Court showing displeasure about the rampant misuse of the red lights, the Transport Authority came out with a list of dignitaries eligible for using beacons, this has been done in accordance with Rule 108 of Central Motor Vehicles Act 1989 on June 7, 2013. The lists of dignitaries eligible for the use of beacon as per the Transport Department are:-
1) Governor of the state
2) Chief Minister of the state
3) Ministers in Council
4) Chairman of Legislative council
5) Speaker of Legislative Assembly
6) Chief Justice and judges of Karnataka High Court
The delegation of members of the organization, who went to submit the complaint also demanded the seizure of these vehicles.
