Are the approach roads to metro stations of Mumbai metro ready?
8 Feb, 2014An application was filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to get the information on the status of the work of Metro Phase-I project of Mumbai Metro which connects Versova and Airport Road Metro station. The reply to the application reveals that though the work on metro route is almost complete, the construction of approach roads to metro stations is still to be finished by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
The MMRDA spokesperson admitted that some work of approach roads near Jagruti Nagar is lying pending and the authority is trying to complete it as soon as possible. An official of Mumbai Metro One Private Limited stated that the works at the viaduct, the Metro depot and 12 metro stations in the 11 km long stretch has been completed and certification for the same is awaited. The official stated that the project is likely to be commercially operation in this fiscal itself.
However, the applicant said that it is not likely to happen as the metro has already missed several deadlines beginning from July 2010 to September 2013. The missed deadlines include those of September 2010, July 2011, March 2012, November 2012, May 2013 and December 2013.
