Appeals pending with Madhya Pradesh SIC for the past eight years
27 Apr, 2013The reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that a huge number of indisposed appeals and complaints have piled up with the Madhya Pradesh State Information Commission (SIC).
As per the reply provided by the state information commission (SIC), there are a whopping 12,800 applications pending with the commission. Among these, 11,128 are appeals filed with the commission and 1,672 are complaints. The reply also says that out of these pending complaints, 64 were filed as earlier as eight years ago i.e. in 2005.
The Right to Information Act, 2005 allows the information seeker to make appeal to the information commission if both the public information officer and the first appellate authority fail to satisfy his demands. It also prescribes that state information commission could have up to ten information commissioners. However, the MP SIC doesn’t have a single information commissioner since January, 2013 when the last existing information commissioner retired. A complaint can be filed to the information commission if there is a delay or denial of information.
