Workshop on RTI for the hearing impaired
17 Apr, 2012
A one day workshop on the RTI (Right to Information) Act was conducted at KDO Bhavan near Bharathi park in Saibaba colony on 15th April, 2012. What was different about this seminar was the fact that all the participants were hearing impaired persons. This seminar, which shows that even the hearing-impaired didn't want to be left behind in using RTI, was conducted by Change India and the Deaf Forum of Coimbatore.
A sign language expert translated the contents presented by the subject experts and also provided answers to the doubts raised by the participants. Many queries were raised a large number of which were regarding vacancies in various government departments related to jobs for the hearing-impaired. As per rules, one per cent of Grade C and D level jobs in the government are reserved for the hearing-impaired people.
