Will the study to assess black money see the light of the day?
4 Apr, 2014The Finance Ministry had engaged three institutes to assess the quantum of black money stashed in India and abroad around three years back. The three institutes who were asked to do the work in 18 months are:-
- National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP), Delhi
- National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), Delhi
- National Institute of Financial Management (NIFM), Faridabad
In reply to an application under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, the Ministry of Finance has informed that one of the three institutes engaged by Ministry of Finance has completed the study and submitted the report while the same is awaited from the other two institutes. However, the public information officer declined to provide a copy of the study claiming that it would cause a breach of privilege of Parliament. The PIO claimed exemption under Section 8 (1) (c) and Section 8 (1) (e) of the RTI Act, 2005 and averred that the report is yet to be examined by the government and action thereof is yet to be laid before the Parliament.
Will the report see the light of the day?
