Whistleblower protection scheme in Haryana
2 Jun, 2012
Following the directive of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which had asked the state to frame a scheme for granting protection to RTI activists and other whistleblowers, the Haryana government has formulated a policy for their protection.
As per the policy, a committee comprising District Magistrate, Superintendent of Police and District Attorneys would take a decision on providing security to the whistleblowers/ RTI activists after reviewing the threat perception. The latest threat assessment from local police and local CID unit would invariably be obtained by the Committee. Further, the State level committee shall work under the Chairmanship of Principal Secretary (home), with Advocate General (AG) Haryana and DGP as members which will review the decisions of district level committees and monitor their functioning.
Any RTI activists/ whistleblowers apprehending any threat to his life can approach the Committee. A similar scheme of Committees has been formulated by the Punjab government.
