Were illegal drug trials done at BMHRC, Bhopal?

As per the records at the Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC), drug trials were conducted on 279 patients of which 215 were victims of the gas leak tragedy. It has been reported that at least 12 of them died.

Unlike the Central Drug Standards Control Organisation records which claim that seven drug trials were conducted at the BMHRC, the documents at BMHRC show 10 and documents filed by pharmaceutical companies with the US government show 13 trials were conducted. As per the Drug Controller General of India, there were three trials. The Secretary, Health Research Dr V M Katoch has assured to look into the matter. The Supreme Court is also looking into the illegal drug trials in the country.
