Was Mahatma Gandhi officially declared as father of the nation?
5 Apr, 2012As per a reply received to an application under the Right to Information (RTI) Act from the National Archives of India (NAI), no specific orders through which Mahatma Gandhi was declared as father of the nation were available. The applicant was invited to visit the department to undertake a detailed search among the public records and library material for the desired information.
A class sixth student of Lucknow had filed a RTI application with the PIO of Prime Minister's office (PMO) seeking a photocopy of the order through which Mahatma Gandhi was declared as father of the nation. After being redirected to the Ministry of Home Affairs and then to NAI, the reply was finally received by the applicant.
