Subhash Chandra Agrawal appointed as “consultant” to the Delhi government
7 May, 2014Mr Subhash Chandra Agrawal is a well know Right to Information (RTI) activist of the country and has earned a name for himself for his crusade against corruption, malpractices and irregularities in public life. His fight against the absence of accountability in the judicial system using RTI has won him accolades from all quarters.
Some of issues taken up by him are:-
· 2G spectrum scam,
· irregularities and corruption in organisation of the Commonwealth Games,
· appointment of CVC,
· declaration of IPR of judges,
· regulation of fee structure by private universities,
· process of judicial reforms,
· making the file notings public under the RTI Act, etc.
He has been felicitated and awarded by many organisations. He was given the ‘SR Jindal Prize – 2012’ jointly with Late Satyendra Kumar Dubey, Sanjeeb Singh Katiyar and Ajay Shankar Dubey in the field of ‘Crusade against Corruption’. He also holds the Guinness World record for the maximum number of letters to the editors of newspapers which were published in them.
The Lt. Governor of Delhi, Mr. Najeeb Jung has appointed him as a consultant to the Delhi government. In a press release, Mr. Agrawal said that it shall be his endeavour to make the Delhi government and its sub-ordinate public authorities amongst the best-rated ones to respond to RTI petitions. He also mentioned that personal experience has made him aware of several shortcomings with the Delhi government and its associated public authorities in handling RTI petitions, and he shall make attempts to rectify them.
