Secretary, Lucknow Development Authority appears before State Information Commission
4 Jul, 2012The Secretary of the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has assured the Uttar Pradesh State Information Commission (SIC) that it would dispose the first appeals within 30 days, as per the time limit prescribed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
A lot of complaints were received by the State Information Commission (SIC) against LDA for not disposing RTI applications and appeals in time. The Secretary, who is also the first appeals authority of LDA, assured the SIC that it would act timely in the days to come and dispose the first appeals within 30 days, as mandated by the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
Earlier the SIC ordered for the personal appearance of the LDA secretary and had fixed the hearing of 27 complaints against LDA. Appearing before the Mr. Brijesh Kumar Mishra, Information Commissioner of SIC, the Secretary informed that there are about 17 first appeals pending with him which would dispose on time. The SIC had disposed of many complaints against LDA in the past. The SIC had commented that “It clearly indicates that the first appeals authority of LDA is not functional.”
Time limits are often not followed by many public authorities about which they should be careful lest senior officers have to make a personal appearance before Information Commission.
