RTI disclosure – Over 2,000 Pakistani nationals did not return back
25 Aug, 2012An application to Ministry of External Affairs under the Right to Information (RTI) Act was filed by a NGO seeking information regarding the number of Pakistani nationals who visited Nagpur between 1980-1994 and 1995 onwards. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) has confirmed that there is no information available on the names and contact addresses of Pakistani nationals visiting Nagpur till 1994. The data was available only 1995 onwards. The available data shows that 9,705 Pakistani citizens visited Nagpur since 1995 but over 2,546 of them didn’t ever return despite the expiry of their visitor’s visa.
The NGO, National Right 2 Information Committee, has now sought the information about Pakistanis visiting India since 1960 from the Ministry of External Affairs.
