RTI - Buildings inhabited without occupancy certificates
27 Aug, 2012In a reply to an application under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) has confirmed that many people took possession of the newly built flats and houses from the builders even if the buildings have not received the compulsory completion certificates.
As the rules in the National Building Code say, after completing the project, a builder must get an occupancy certificate from NIT (the planning authority of townships) which is the final approval to the building regarding its planning and safety. But, NIT accepted that most of the inhabited buildings have not been issued the mandatory occupancy certificate.
