RTI activist goes for fast unto death
12 Aug, 2012
As many posts of Information Commissioners are lying vacant in Haryana, many pleas under RTI are pending with the State Information Commission (SIC), some of which are for over a year. In this regard, a Right to Information (RTI) activist from Karnal district has demanded the state government to immediately fill the vacant posts. To press his demand,
Monish Kumar Sharma
has gone on fast unto death near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi
since August 8, 2012.
He has cited a ruling of Punjab and Haryana High court in which the court had given directions to the Haryana government to set up a search committee for the purpose of immediate appointment of Information Commissioners.
