Rs. 30 crores spent by government on advertisements of anniversaries of leaders
27 May, 2012The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the central government on a petition alleging misuse of public funds by the parties in power. It was claimed in the petition filed by Umesh Sethi that there is a misuse of public funds by parties who give advertisements on the birth and death anniversaries of their leaders for which payment is made by the public exchequer.
The petitioner claimed on the basis of an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act that Rs.30 crore was spent by various ministries between 2009-11 on such advertisements. The petition also objected to public schemes and monuments being named after leaders of political parties. The division bench of acting Chief Justice A.K. Sikri and Justice R.S.
