Ratnakar Gaikwad chosen as the Chief Information Commissioner of Maharashtra

The Maharashtra government has decided to appoint Ratnakar Gaikwad, (IAS, Retd.) as the Chief Information Commissioner of the State Information Commission (SIC) of the state. After the tenure of Vilas Patil ended almost eight months ago, there was no regular incumbent for the post. Mr. Gaikwad was the Chief Secretary of the state and had retired 5 days ago.
A three-member committee comprising of the Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and leader of opposition in the legislative assembly Eknath Khadse selected Mr. Gaikwad from a list of seven applicants. The proposal for appointing him as the Chief Information Commissioner of the SIC has been sent to the Governor for the approval.
