Punjab Government directs the departments to display names of PIOs, APIOs, FAA

The State Government of Punjab has issued a notice to all the departments to display the names and designation of Public Information Officers (PIO), Assistant Public Information Officers (APIO) and First appellate Authority (FAA) on the display board of their offices and the official website of the departments.

Under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, the PIO is responsible for replying to RTI applications. Section 4(1)(b)(xvi) of the Act mandates to display the names, designations and other particulars of the Public Information Officers.

The directive issued by the State Government aims at reducing the difficulties faced by the people seeking information under the RTI Act. The departments had also been asked to send a compliance report to the Governance Reforms Department.
