A private member Bill for amendment in RTI Act introduced in the Lok Sabha
1 May, 2012A private member Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha for amendment in the Right to Information (RTI) Act by Mr. Jayant Chaudhary, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) General Secretary and Member of Parliament from Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. The Bill titled 'an Act further to amend the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005' asks for amending section 2 and inserts a new definition of 'Private Sector Entity and Public-Private Partnerships' in the RTI Act, 2005.
Mr. Choudhary claimed that there is an ambiguity about the jurisdiction of Right to Information (RTI) Act on PPPs and several RTI applications filed seeking information on PPP projects are pending in various judicial forum. This is leading to opacity, unnecessary litigation and delay in disclosure. The Bill seeks to address this ambiguity and make mandatory for a private company under PPP to share information under the RTI Act.
