Principal Secretary asks officials to take RTI seriously
30 Jul, 2012The Principal Secretary to the Delhi government Mr. M M Kutty has written to senior officials of government agencies asking them to take the Right to Information (RTI) Act seriously. He has asked the officers to ensure that pending RTI applications are cleared as early as possible. Mr. Kutty had received many complaints from RTI applicants who had raised the issue of delays in providing information against applications filed under the RTI Act. Many cases have been reported in the Media where the RTI applications were either not transferred to the right department to enable the applicant to receive a timely reply.
Mr. Kutty has stated in his letter “A number of complaints of delayed responses to RTI applications have been received….. The RTI Act has to be followed to keep the working of the government transparent. Delay in sending a reply can betray the purpose of the Act.”
