Plea for CBI enquiry in RTI activist’s murder case
22 Aug, 2012
Environmentalist and Right to Information (RTI) activist Amit Jethava had filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) about the illegal mining going on in the periphery of the Gir sanctuary. He had made direct allegations against Junagadh MP (BJP) Dinu Solanki and had sought seeking court’s intervention in this matter. A few days after the filing of PIL, he was murdered by two persons outside the Gujarat High Court. The Ahmedabad City Detection of Crime Branch was handed the responsibility of the investigation. The branch had arrested, in this regard, many persons, including Solanki’s nephew Pratap alias Shiva Solanki.
Now, Amit’s father Bhikha Jethava has approached the Gujarat High Court claiming that the progress of the investigation has deliberately been stalled. He contended that attempts were being made to save Solanki in the case and has sought enquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the case.
The High Court has reserved its verdict on the demand of CBI probe and has asked the concerned parties to give their submissions by August 24.
