Over 1 lakh Crore pending of nationalised banks pending with defaulters
14 Jul, 2012A reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has shown that in the nationalised banks, over than Rs 1 lakh crore is pending with nearly five million defaulters who have failed to repay their loans. The debtors numbered 49,24,611 and the default amount was Rs. 1,00,155 crore. The RTI application has provided the information that the State Bank of India lead the list with a total of 17,88,125 defaulters involving an amount of Rs 32,534 which made up of nearly 32 per cent of the total defaulted amount and 36.3 per cent of the defaulters. Other defaulters are:
- Punjab National Bank had a default amount of Rs 9,632 crore
- Union Bank of India had a default amount of Rs 7,615 crore and 5,50,733 defaulters
- Bank of India had 3,43,220 defaulters
- It was revealed there were 969 debtors who defaulted in repaying over Rs 10 crore each, adding up to Rs 27,000 crore.
In case of Non-performing assets (NPA):
- The State Bank of India has 370 NPA,
- Bank of India has 139 NPA and
- Union Bank of India 93 NPA
