No traces of the whereabouts of missing children
5 Sep, 2012
Information retrieved using the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005 has revealed that till July, 2012 a total of 142 children missing from Nagpur have remained untraceable. Of these, 135 cases are registered as missing while seven cases are of kidnapped minor girls.
The social activists accuse police of negligence but some think that the high numbers of clueless cases also result from ignorance of families to report back to the police in case their child returned.
The task of co-ordinating the complaints of the missing children and investigating and retrieving the lost ones has been entrusted to the social service branch (SSB) of Nagpur city police. The police demands that the social service branch should get dedicated manpower to probe complaints of missing children.
