Matter related to call details of CBI joint director to be heard by AP HC today
13 Jul, 2012Justice K.C. Bhanu of AP High Court is going to hear the matter which was adjourned for July 13. Earlier, the Andhra Pradesh High Court had refused to grant an order to stay the arrest of K. Raghu Rama Krishna Raju, an industrialist and relative of Rajya Sabha member K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao. The police had invoked Official Secrets Act and provision of criminal conspiracy (Section 120-B of IPC) against his Mr. Raju. A plea was made by Mr. Raju before the HC to declare the police action in registering a case against him in the matter relating to access to the phone call details of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Joint Director V.V. Lakshminarayana. It was claimed that Mr Raju had received the call data from his friend K.V. Reddy, who had in turn got it by using the Right to Information (RTI) Act. It was argued before the High Court that there is no bar under the Right to Information (RTI) Act to obtain call details of a police officer and a citizen has every right to know about functions of a government servant.
