UP to make the assets of ministers’ public under RTI
22 Mar, 2012
Through a June 2009 order, the then Uttar Pradesh government had exempted certain issues from the RTI Act including the code of conduct of ministers, appointment of governors, appointment of ministers of various ranks, letters written by the governor to the President and appointment of judges of the high court etc. The new Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has declared his intent to change the order and has said that he would be putting the assets of all his ministers and officials in the public domain, starting with his details and that of his family members.
As per the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), out of 375 IAS officers, 227 are yet to submit details of their immovable property returns, and out of the 330 IPS officers, 24 are defaulters.
