Inclusion of the RTI Act proposed to NCERT
11 Jul, 2012The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has made a suggestion to the National Council for Educational Research Training (NCERT) for inclusion of the Right to Information (RTI) Act in the school curriculum. The DoPT has suggested that the RTI Act may be taught as curriculum or in the form of non-mandatory supplementary books to the students between upper primary and higher secondary level. Such a step would help in making the children aware of the landmark legislation and apprise them about the possible use of the Act. No decision has yet been taken by the NCERT for inclusion of a chapter on RTI Act in the school curriculum. If this proposal gets accepted by the National Council for Educational Research Training (NCERT), the school children may get exposure to the basics of the Right to Information Act.
Earlier, the Central Vigilance Commission had proposed inclusion of lessons on anti-corruption in school curricula to promote ethics, integrity and honesty among children which is under the process of implementation.
