How much power is consumed by the ministers of Kerala?
19 Feb, 2013An application was filed with the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to know the monthly consumption of power by different ministers of the state.
The reply provided by the KSEB states that the average power consumption of the ministers is around Rs. 15,000/- per month. As indicated by the data provided in the reply, power consumption of almost every minister is extremely high though wide variation in the pattern of power consumption can be noticed. The applicant has stated that the average power consumed by the ministers is far greater than the average power consumed by the rural consumers which stood at below Rs. 300/- per month.
Ironically, KSEB has spent Rs.11.87 crore in past three years on advertisements to educate people for adopting energy saving measures to cut off power consumption.
