How is the idea of giving a bribe using a zero rupee note?
31 Mar, 2014A zero rupee note has been invented by a Non government organisation (NGO) to tackle corruption. The idea of a currency with a denomination of zero came to Vijay Anand, the founder of the NGO 5th Pillar, who later got the printed at in a special mint.
It has been done as a tool to humble a bribe taker and is a part of an attempt to create a country free of corruption and graft. The first chapter of the NGO was started in Chennai in 2007 and now it has grown into an all India organisation with nearly one and a half lakh members.
The NGO asks the people not to argue with the person demanding a bribe but just present the note to him and tell him to pass it on to someone who makes a similar request from him. The NGO has found immediate results and change in the person’s demeanour.
The NGO trains the persons on the use of the RTI Act and also conducts leadership training camps for volunteers.
