HC Orders Delhi Crime Branch to investigate Balwani death
22 May, 2012A bench of acting Chief Justice A K Sikri and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw of the Delhi High Court directed the Police to probe into the mysterious death of RTI activist Ravinder Balwani. The Court also ordered to be appraised it of the progress of the probe on a fortnight basis through filing of reports. The bench said “Having regard to the seriousness of the case, the investigation is to be conducted by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police and the progress report to be filed fortnightly”.
The Lokayukta's counsel brought to the knowledge of the HC that Balwani's son has recently sent a letter, written by his father before his death apprehending threat to his life.
A former manager with Delhi Transco Limited, Balwani, was killed under mysterious circumstances in an accident and a case of hit-and-run was registered. An FIR was also lodged with the Vasant Kunj police station. He had used the Right to Information (RTI) Act extensively to expose the wrongdoings of officials in the power sector.
