HC notice to Rajasthan government over appointment of Information Commissioners
16 May, 2012A division bench comprising Chief Justice Arun Kumar Mishra and Justice Kailash Joshi of the Rajasthan High Court has issued notices to the State Government and the Rajasthan State Information Commission (SIC) regarding non-appointment of Information Commissioners in the Rajasthan SIC by the government. Hearing a PIL filed by one Dinesh Bothra, the bench sought a reply on the next hearing.
Currently there only a Chief Information Commissioner working in the Rajasthan SIC without a single Information Commissioner to assist him. The petitioner has claimed that the number of pending appeals with the Rajasthan SIC has exceeded 8,000, with the time of disposal shooting to over one year. The petitioner also alleged that no transparency has been adopted in the appointment of the Chief Information Commissioner by the successive governments.
